Daryan Bredemeyer '21 Accounting M'22 Data AnalyticsFavorite memories at 缅北强奸:
Some of my favorite memories at 缅北强奸 revolve around stepping outside my comfort zone and building new connections. Growing up in Fort Wayne, I moved to Evansville for college without knowing a single person there. I was drawn to the idea of forging my own path, and that decision shaped my experience in meaningful ways. Living on campus, I got involved in Greek life, Dance Marathon, and spent countless hours studying with new friends who quickly became my support system. My freshman year taught me more about who I am and who I want to become than any textbook ever could.
What is one thing you wish you would have known in college?
The connections you make during college can have a lasting impact far beyond graduation. It鈥檚 not about how many people you know, but the depth and quality of those relationships. Building meaningful connections鈥攚ith peers, professors, and mentors鈥攃an open doors, offer support, and shape your personal and professional journey in ways you might not expect.
What is one of the biggest misconceptions about accounting as a career choice?
Many people assume accounting is only for those who are obsessed with numbers or naturally gifted in math. While I do enjoy working with numbers, I wouldn鈥檛 describe myself as a 鈥渘umbers person.鈥 In reality, much of my work involves problem solving, critical thinking, and collaborating with others. Accounting requires strong communication and interpersonal skills鈥攓ualities that are often overlooked when people think about the profession.
Has working in accounting been different than you expected?
Absolutely. When I chose accounting as a career, I fully expected to spend my entire professional life in public accounting. But after completing my MBA, I realized that path didn鈥檛 align with where I wanted to go. I transitioned into an analyst role, which allowed me to take a more strategic and data-driven approach to business. The skills I gained as an auditor still serve me well today, but I had no idea there were so many opportunities outside of the traditional CPA or banking routes. It鈥檚 been eye-opening to discover how versatile and dynamic the field really is.
If you could do one thing and knew you wouldn鈥檛 fail, what would it be?
I would open a cozy, dog-friendly space that combines a coffee shop, bookshop, and flower shop in one. Anyone who knows me knows those are my favorite things, and creating a place where people (and their pups) could relax, read, sip coffee, and enjoy fresh flowers would be a dream come true. It would be a space built around comfort, community, and joy.
Fun fact about you:
I鈥檓 really passionate about protecting pollinators鈥攅specially bees and butterflies. Every year, I make it a goal to add a new native plant to our landscaping to help support their habitats. Spring is my favorite season, when everything starts blooming again and the garden comes back to life.

What advice would you give seniors on making the most of their last year of college and preparing for their careers after graduation. Similarly, what would you tell freshmen?
To seniors: Savor every moment of your final chapter in college. While preparing for your career is essential, don鈥檛 lose sight of the memories, friendships, and experiences that make this time truly special. You won鈥檛 get it back鈥攕o live it fully. To freshmen: Dive in headfirst! Get involved in clubs, internships, and campus activities. These opportunities not only shape your college experience but also lay the groundwork for your future success.
What is one of the biggest misconceptions about accounting as a career choice?
Many people assume that a career in accounting is solitary and isolating鈥攂ut that couldn't be further from the truth. In reality, I collaborate daily with colleagues across the office and throughout the firm. The teamwork, shared problem-solving, and constant exchange of ideas make it a dynamic and enriching environment. I learn something new every single day from the talented professionals around me.

Kelley Lott '17 AccountingHow have classes at Romain College of Business helped you in your career?
The Romain College of Business classes provided a strong foundation for my career. From Accounting & Taxation with Dr. Bryan to Advanced Accounting with Dr. Seitz, the coursework was instrumental in shaping my understanding of accounting. One class I still reference often is Professor Bizal鈥檚 Business Communications course. She is a top-notch educator and communicator, and her concise, constructive feedback has stayed with me to this day. With that said, it鈥檚 not so much the classes that helped me in my career. Rather, it was the way the RCoB professors led their courses鈥攚ith industry experience, engaging lectures, and challenging coursework鈥攖hat has had the greatest impact.
What skills do you think are most essential for being successful in accounting?
The skills most essential for success in accounting are being detail-oriented, analytical, and systematic. While accounting work relies heavily on accuracy and precision, it is equally important to step back from the details鈥攚hether to see the bigger picture or simply perform a sanity check. Accountants also manage information from many sources鈥攃lients, vendors, and internal departments鈥攕o strong organizational skills are critical for compiling financial data and retrieving documentation when needed.
