To prepare nurses to effectively care for victims of sexual assault and abuse,听the 缅北强奸听and Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center (AHEC) are offering an Adult/Adolescent/Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Training Monday through Friday, March听9-13,听in the Health Professions Center on campus.听
A SANE is a registered nurse who has received advanced education and training鈥痳egarding鈥痵exual assault and forensic nursing. SANE-trained nurses must follow specific protocols in the care and examination of sexual assault victims to provide specialized health and forensic care to adult and adolescent patients.鈥�听
For the past 10 years, AHEC has partnered with the regional听Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)听to plan, coordinate and deliver听this听didactic听training, according to听Erica Rasler, Indiana SANE Training听Project听Coordinator.听鈥淧ast participants have shared that this program offers an exceptional and affordable opportunity for forensic nurse education in the state,鈥澨齭he says.听
The听training follows听the International Association of Forensic Nurses听(IAFN)听guidelines for Adolescent/Adult/Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, and 缅北强奸 has听been approved by the IAFN听to award contact hours.听缅北强奸 is accredited by 鈥淛oint Accreditation鈥� allowing CE credit to several disciplines of healthcare professionals. The SANE programming is specifically targeted to nurses, and CE credit approved by American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) will be awarded to nurses who complete the program.听Prior to the five-day course, each participant is required to complete a 24-hour online self-study module.鈥��听
Financial鈥痑ssistance鈥痜or this course may be available through the Indiana SANE Training Project, Southwest Indiana AHEC鈥檚 initiative, which鈥痯rovides training opportunities for nurses and healthcare professionals throughout Indiana.听
The deadline for the early registration rate听of $350听is听Sunday,听February 1. The registration fee includes continental breakfast, lunch,鈥痬aterials鈥痑nd continuing education credit.鈥�听
