January 13, 2026

The 缅北强奸 Philip H. Hagemann Performing Arts Department, in association with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and Murray Rosenthal, are proud to present听Farce and Follies:听A听缅北强奸听Opera听Event.听Performances听will听take place at 7 p.m. Friday, January 30 and 2 p.m. Saturday, January 31 in the 缅北强奸 Performance听Center.

Performances will feature听two musical works that听demonstrate听how music can be a mirror, for better or worse, of the human condition.

The first act consists of听The Music Cure,听an adaptation by Philip Hagemann of the George Bernard听Shaw听one-act of the same name. Originally premiering in 1913, Shaw鈥檚 play (which he subtitled 鈥渁 Piece of Utter Nonsense鈥) has been enriched听by Hagemann's听musical setting.

Blending comedy, music and sharp observation, the production offers an entertaining and thought-provoking evening of theatre. The result is a show that is clever without being heavy, intelligent without being听intimidating,听and consistently engaging.听

Taking听on听the role of Strega听Thundridge,听缅北强奸 is proud to welcome soprano Alison Buchanan back to the Performance Center听stage. Buchanan is the Artistic Director of Pegasus Opera in London and has enjoyed a successful partnership with Hagemann & Rosenthal Associates.听This partnership has brought the operas of Philip J. Hagemann听to London听audiences听and听showcased听many of his works.

The second act will be selections from Steven Sondheim鈥檚 hit,听Follies.听Follies听takes听audiences on a dazzling journey into memory,听regret听and the passage of time. Set against the backdrop of a听soon-to-be-demolished Broadway theatre, the musical reunites former showgirls and performers, whose pasts return to haunt them through unforgettable songs. With Sondheim鈥檚 intricate score and sharp, poignant lyrics,听Follies听blends glamour, comedy and heartbreak offering a theatrical experience where music becomes a mirror, reflecting the laughter,听longing听and truths we sometimes try to hide.听

Follies听will听showcase听the vocal talents of guest artists Jonathan Elmore, Daniel Lentz, Lisa Hatt, Donata Cucinotta, Alison Buchanan听and听Elliot Wasserman, Chair Emeritus of the Hagemann Performing Arts Department and听Professor Emeritus of Theatre. Joining the principal听cast will be 缅北强奸听students听Ethan Hoover, Cruz听Quiroz, Chrislyn Miller, Abby Scheller and Morgan Stauter. This presents a unique opportunity for professional talent to work hand in hand with our theatrical students.听

Musical accompaniment will be provided by members of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra under the听musical听direction of Roger Kalia. In its 90-year history, the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra continues to grow as one of the finest regional orchestras of its kind in the听country,听reaching thousands of audience members young and old.听

Both shows will be directed by Dr. Joshua Robinson, Associate Professor of Musical Theatre.听Additional design and production work will be provided by听Paul Weimer, Chair of the Hagemann Performing Arts Department;听John Merrit, Teaching Assistant Professor of Theatre;听Matthew听Ishee,听Assistant Professor of Theatre;听听Jacob Reynolds, Theatre Technical Coordinator;听Kimberly Coleman, Costume Shop Manager;听Shan Jensen, Professor听Emeritus;听and Adam Funkhouser, Senior Administrative Assistant.听
