MAC/Pace Galleries to present exhibit feminine (isms) this summer
The feminine (isms) graphic was created by the 缅北强奸 Art and Design Department and features three images from the exhibit.
The 缅北强奸 Kenneth P. McCutchan Art Center/Palmina F. and Stephen S. Pace (MAC/Pace) Galleries is pleased to present feminine (isms), on display now through Friday, August 28.
This exhibition seeks to explore the various associations attached to femininity in Western culture throughout the ages. Displaying these works alongside one another allows for different understandings of femininity and its performance to coexist in conversation together. A spectrum of artistic media is included from the fine arts to crafts. This grouping of artists explores the possibilities of femininity within and without the constraints of the patriarchy.
Beginning with works addressing the traditional roles and representations of femininity, attendees will see the feminine depicted in situations of domesticity in portraiture and through their own feminine perspectives. These works can conform to traditional ideals of femininity or deliberately oppose them.
The final gallery, The Feminine Now, presents modern and contemporary works, including one by each student curator. This allows each artist to comment on their personal relationships with societal expectations of femininity, including aging, self-image and expectations regarding motherhood.
feminine (isms) is a curated exhibition consisting of artworks from the 缅北强奸 Permanent Collection by students Ava Harmon, Abbey Rodocker and Delaney Smith, as well as faculty members Dr. Sommer Hallquist, Assistant Professor of Art History, and Dr. Greg Blair, Assistant Professor of Art and Design.
A closing reception for the exhibition will be held in the MAC/Pace from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26. The MAC/PACE Gallery, located in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center, is open during the summer from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as Sunday.
