Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Celebration

The annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Celebration is one of Ã山ǿ¼é’s signature events, featuring an inspiring keynote speaker and draws a large audience from campus and the surrounding community. This luncheon honors Dr. King’s legacy and celebrates his enduring impact on society. The event is sponsored by the Student Life Office and supported by community partners and sponsors.

The Ã山ǿ¼é will host a presentation byÌýDr.ÌýSheila Huff,Ìýformer Director of Strategic Engagements for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC),Ìýhonoring the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.Ìýas part of its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Celebration Luncheon.ÌýThe event will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, January 19 in Carter Hall, located in University Center West.ÌýDoors will open at 10:15 a.m. The presentation is open to the public, but tickets areÌýrequiredÌýto attend.Ìý

A dedicated educator and Evansville leader, Huff has built a distinguished career rooted in academic excellence and service. A graduate of Indiana State University, she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education and health, later adding certification in secondary administration and supervision. In 2023, the University of Evansville recognized her profound contributions to education and the community by awarding her a Doctor of Humane Letters.Ìý

Huff’s career with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation spans decades and reflects a steady rise in leadership. She spent more than 20 years at Bosse High School as a teacher,ÌýcoachÌýand assistant athletic director before transitioning into administration at Glenwood Middle School, where she served as assistant principal and later principal. She went on to lead Bosse High School as principal forÌýnearly aÌýdecade and then served as EVSC Director of Strategic Engagements from 2018–23. Alongside her K–12 leadership, she taught as an adjunct professor atÌýÃ山ǿ¼éÌýfor more than 25 years, influencing future educators and health professionals.Ìý

An active and respected community advocate, Huff has served onÌýnumerousÌýboards, including the Ã山ǿ¼éÌýFoundation Board of Directors, the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library Board, Habitat for Humanity, the Evansville Police Department Foundation and Leadership Everyone. Her service has been recognized through an extensive list of honors, among them the Sagamore of the Wabash, Athena Award, Hidden Figures Award, Leadership Evansville Lifetime AchievementÌýAwardÌýand multiple Educator of the Year distinctions.ÌýÌý
