What is the O'Daniel Leadership Academy?

The O'Daniel Leadership Academy was created by 缅北强奸 in honor of the late Joseph O'Daniel to recognize his dedication and leadership. O'Daniel was a foundational figure for 缅北强奸, serving on its initial Board of Trustees for 10 years, including three as chair. He contributed to regional development and philanthropic causes, and was a Korean War veteran. 

The Academy emphasizes cultivating and fostering leadership qualities, community improvement and building on Joseph O'Daniel's legacy of service.

Leadership Pathways

Level 1: Emerging Leader

The Emerging Leader is currently enrolled as a participant in the Student Leadership and Service Program and is completing the Leadership Training Curriculum.

Requirements:

  • Complete the Curriculum
  • Minimum of five (5) community service hours during the academic year
  • Be involved in at least one (1) student organization
  • Attend biweekly leadership workshops/meetings
  • Submit project-based assignments

Emerging Leaders will receive a certificate of completion and will be promoted to the Mentor level at the O鈥橠aniel Leadership Academy Recognition Ceremony.

Level 2: Mentor

The Mentor has completed the Leadership Training Curriculum and is serving as a mentor to one of the 鈥淓merging Leaders鈥 while completing the Mentor Leadership Training Curriculum.

Requirements:

  • Complete the Curriculum
  • Minimum of ten (10) accumulated community service hours over the course of the program
  • Meet one-on-one with their mentee twice a month
  • Attend biweekly leadership workshops/meetings
  • Submit a capstone project proposal at the end of the semester

Mentors will receive training during a Summer Retreat and will facilitate a small group workshop at the Fall Leadership Retreat. Mentors will receive a lapel pin聽and will be promoted to the Outreach Facilitator level at the O鈥橠aniel Leadership聽Academy Recognition Ceremony.

Level 3: Outreach Facilitator

The Outreach Facilitator has completed the Level 1 Leadership Training Curriculum and has been a Level 2 Mentor within the Student Leadership聽and Service Program. Outreach Facilitators will meet biweekly to leadership聽workshop/meetings.

Requirements:

  • Complete the proposed capstone project (individual or group)
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) accumulated community service hours over the course of the program
  • Attend progress meetings with Student Life Office Staff
  • Create a presentation or poster detailing the capstone project, results and learning outcomes
  • Complete and submit an e-portfolio exhibiting achievement of the Student Leadership and Service Program

Outreach Facilitators will present their project findings and receive a cord to wear during commencement at the O鈥橠aniel Leadership Academy Recognition Ceremony.
