The Writers' Room serves as a resource for all screagles by providing assistance from peer writing consultants in a comfortable writing environment or online.

For writing assignments in any class and at any stage of the writing process, peer writing consultants can provide students with guidance and feedback:

• Understanding assignments
• Audience
• Brainstorming
• Citing
• Drafting
• Editing
• Elaborating and supporting ideas
• Focusing
• Understanding grammar
• Organizing
• Researching and using source material
• Revising
• Using correct and effective sentence structure
• Thesis development

All writing consultants complete an extensive training program led by the Academic Success Center staff.

Students can send an essay through TracCloud for asynchronous feedback from a writing consultant. See the video above for instructions, beginning with Step 14. For an asynchronous session, in addition to the steps described in the video, please deselect the "In Person" box in the Schedule an Appointment window. You will be looking for purple availability blocks.

The submission should include the paper attached as a Word document, and the accompanying message should include:

• A brief description of the assignment
• The help you are requesting
• The class and professor
• The due date of the assignment

NOTE: Although the system is set up by specific times, the writing consultants will review your paper as they have time between in-person sessions. You should generally receive a response within 48 hours of submitting your paper, not including weekends.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a voluntary program that offers free, regularly scheduled study sessions for traditionally difficult courses.聽SI sessions are led by undergraduate student SI Leaders who have previously taken the course and demonstrated academic competency in the subject area. Each SI Leader facilitates two study sessions per week. Please check your syllabus to see if SI is offered for your course.

Students who participate in SI Study Groups:

• Learn the study skills necessary to succeed in the courses.
• Work collaboratively with peers in an open, friendly, and non-judgmental environment.
• Receive support from an extensively trained, educated SI Leader.
