feminine (isms)
Exhibition | May 25 - August 28, 2026
Reception | 4:30 p.m., August 26, 2026
The 缅北强奸鈥檚 Kenneth P. McCutchan Art Center/Palmina F. and Stephen S. Pace Galleries is pleased to present feminine (isms) from May 25 to August 28, 2026.
This exhibition seeks to explore the various associations attached to femininity in Western culture throughout the ages. Displaying these works alongside one another allows for different understandings of femininity and its performance to coexist in conversation together. We have included a spectrum of artistic media, from those usually associated with the fine arts to those traditionally relegated to 鈥渃raft鈥. This grouping of artists explores the possibilities of femininity within and without the constraints of the patriarchy.
Beginning with works addressing the traditional roles and representations of femininity, you will see the feminine depicted in situations of domesticity, in portraiture, and through their own feminine perspectives. These works can conform to traditional ideals of femininity or deliberately oppose them. The final gallery, 鈥淭he Feminine Now鈥, presents modern and contemporary works, including one by each student curator. This allows each artist to comment on their personal relationships with societal expectations of femininity, including aging, self-image and expectations regarding motherhood.
feminine (isms) is a curated exhibition consisting of artworks from the 缅北强奸 Permanent Collection by Ava Harmon, Abbey Rodocker, Delaney Smith, Dr. Sommer Hallquist and Dr. Greg Blair.
A closing reception for the exhibition will be held in the MAC/Pace at 4:30-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26.
