Church Park

A block at the corners of Church and West Street and Tavern and West Street

Built:听1996
Original Use:听Site of the two Harmonist churches
Design:听Public open space and flower garden

Church Park was constructed in 1996 by Historic New Harmony on the site of the Harmonist brick church. You enter the park through a recreation of the Door of Promise, which welcomed Harmonists to their church. It includes the Harmonist golden rose motif and inscription, "Micah 4 vs. 8." This inscription refers to the German Lutheran translation of the bible verse: "And thou Tower of Eden, the stronghold of the daughter of Zion, the golden rose shall come, the former dominion, the Kingdom of the daughter of Jerusalem." At the center of the formal gardens is the Fountain of Commitment, a sculpture by Don Gummer. 听

The park also features a basketball court and benches.听
