A Few Things Worth Knowing

It's a Small Town

New Harmony isn't a big tourist destination with dozens of restaurants and hotels. It's a small town with thoughtful options. That means you should plan ahead, especially during peak seasons or special events. Check hours before you go: some places have limited days or seasonal schedules.

It's Worth Staying Overnight

If you can swing it, stay overnight. The town feels different in the early morning or evening when it's quieter. You'll have time to explore beyond the guided tour, eat a good meal and experience New Harmony as more than just a quick stop.

There's More Here Than You'd Expect

Richard Meier's Atheneum. Philip Johnson's Roofless Church. Beautiful public gardens. The Working Men's Institute Museum & Library. Contemporary art. Good food and interesting shopping. It's a small town, but it's been thoughtfully developed over decades. Give yourself time to discover it.

Nearby Options

If New Harmony's lodging is booked or you want more dining options, nearby communities have additional choices:

  • Mount Vernon, Indiana: about 20 minutes away
  • Evansville, Indiana: about 30 minutes away
  • Other Wabash River towns: within easy driving distance

The and can point you toward these options too.聽
