Volunteers needed for The Wall That Heals, October 28 – November 1

Volunteers must be age 18 or older. 

The nonprofit event organizer, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, is asking for 200 volunteers from the community.

Volunteer areas include the Visitor Information Tent, Visitor Assistance at the Wall, Visitor Direction, Parking and Visitor Assistance, Mobile Education Center, In-Memory Assistance and Volunteer Assistance.

The shifts are four hours in length and are available during the day and overnight.

A training session at The Wall That Heals is provided (rain or shine) at 6 p.m. after the exhibit is set up. Volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend.ÌýHandouts are provided toÌýassistÌývolunteers inÌýattendanceÌýand extra copies are given to your volunteer coordinator toÌýprovideÌýto thoseÌýunableÌýtoÌýattend training.Ìý

All volunteer positions require standing and walking around the mobile Education Center and at The Wall. Volunteers are encouraged to sit and take a break in your designated volunteer check-in area during their shift. Except for those in the Information Tent, no chairs are provided for volunteers in their assigned areas.ÌýÌý

VolunteerÌýassignmentsÌýmayÌýinclude:Ìý

  • Standing at several points along The Wall That Heals for public assistance and welcoming all visitors.Ìý

  • MonitoringÌýtheÌýflowÌýofÌývisitorsÌýandÌýdirectingÌýthemÌýaroundÌýtheÌýexhibitsÌýonÌýdisplayÌýatÌýthe mobileÌýEducationÌýCenter.Ìý

  • AssistingÌývisitors inÌýlocatingÌýnames on The Wall using The Wall app, or Directory ofÌýNames books provided by VVMF located in separate information area (VVMF willÌýprovide name location form to be used to record the location of the name theyÌýwishÌýtoÌýlocate.)Ìý

  • Assisting visitors to complete a name rubbing on The Wall That Heals.ÌýRubbing slips and rubbingÌýrequestsÌýcards are provided by VVMF – the host will provide 100 number 2 full-sizeÌýpencils. Please be aware thatÌýcrayons, pens, and markers cannot be usedÌýforÌýrubbingsÌýasÌýtheyÌýwill damage The Wall That Heals.Ìý

  • Answering questions and providing visitors with handouts found at the mobileÌýEducation Center or Info Tent on such topics as Woman and Chaplains on The Wall, Wall of Faces, In Memory Program and Wall Facts.Ìý

  • Ensure decorum isÌýobservedÌýat The Wall to provide a respectful reflective setting for all.ÌýÌý

Some general guidance:Ìý

  • Volunteers should report 15 minutes early toÌýcheck-inÌýand familiarizeÌýthemselves with all areas of the site.ÌýÌý

  • BeforeÌýdeparting, volunteers from theÌýpreviousÌýshift or your volunteerÌýcoordinatorÌýonÌýdutyÌýwillÌýtrainÌýthe nextÌýshiftÌýonÌýtheirÌýassignedÌýpositionsÌýas necessary.ÌýÌý

  • No food or beverages may be consumed in the proximity of The Wall That Heals.ÌýÌý

  • ExceptÌýforÌýrecognizedÌýserviceÌýanimals,ÌýpetsÌýareÌýnotÌýpermittedÌýatÌýTheÌýWall.Ìý
